Farewell to FOX favourite – House

Mourn with me internet, for today is a sad day. The-powers-that-be behind the FOX network’s “House” have decided that the eighth season will be the last.

This is bad for many people. Fans of the show, fans of Hugh Laurie… Hell, even wannabe doctors. I feel like I’ve learnt enough medical stuff to competently transplant a liver AND do that thing with the electricity.

In a statement released earlier today the executive producers for the programme confirmed what has long been on the cards.

“The decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one, as it risks putting asunder hundreds of close friendships that have developed over the last eight years – but also because the show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved.”

It was a long shot that House would make it to a ninth series. It’s rare for shows in the US to make it past five. The first crack appeared when Lisa Edelstein left after the finale of series seven and now the rest of the House has crumbled (see what I did there?).

While Hugh Laurie will definitely be missed in the States, especially with the high calibre of television writers the end of House may free him up to star as a different kind of doctor. I’m talking about Doctor Who. It has long been suggested that Laurie would make a fantastic Doctor and the quality of the writing from Stephen Moffat is not a far cry from the sorts we see on US screens.

How about it Hugh, fancy playing a different kind of Doctor?
